Falkirk Online is an online directory of businesses located within in the Falkirk area. Its purpose is to provide Falkirk residents with information about local services and to rate them in accordance to their personal experience.
Falkirk Online is monetised by a combination of paid advertising from local business and Google Adsense.

The Challenge
The goal was to increase the revenues from Falkirk Online to a level that could support the owners full time employment.
The Solution
The solution involved three distinct activities:
Increase Visitors
The obvious starting point was to increase the number of visitors to Falkirk Online. This was achieved by solving site architecture and navigational issues that were stopping many of the pages from being indexed. Furthermore a link campaign that fed pages deep within the site structure was also instigated.
Ad Targeting
Initially the quality of the Adsense Ads appearing on Falkirk Online was poor and untargeted failing to reflect the content of the page. This issue was partially resolved by improving site structure as discussed above and was further aided by careful consideration of meta tags and headlines .
Increases Adsense Clickthrough
Both the above steps had already increased clickthrough i.e. there were more clicks and earnings increased substantially. However, the Falkirk Online's clickthrough rate was still low, only 2% to 3% of visitors were clicking on any of the Adsense units. To increase this we customised the ads look and feel to blend better with the site and repositioned them.
The Result
Falkirk Online has many pages that hold #1 positions on Google, traffic has increased significantly, and Adsense clickthrough has increased by 300%.
